Wedding Photography at the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, Scotland
Situated in the very heart of Edinburgh, The Royal College of Physicians (aka RCPE) in Queen Street, Edinburgh is an absolutely unique wedding venue, steeped in character and history.
The unassuming exterior hides a magnificent and surprisingly vast interior which is ideally suited to weddings of all types – religious weddings, civil ceremonies, humanist and civil partnership ceremonies all work well in the grand and opulent setting of the Royal College of Physicians that provides a fantastic location for wedding photography.
The college was established in the 17th century to advance to study and practice of medicine, and remains at the forefront of the profession to this day. During the week Doctors and surgeons visit, meet and study in what is still a working college, indeed one groom whose wedding Graeme photographed in 2009 remarked that the last time he had been in the hall (where the wedding breakfast and reception take place) was a few weeks previously when he was sitting some exams in connection with his work as a GP!
Wedding ceremonies take place in the wood-paneled library, with a huge range of textbooks some dating back hundreds of years on all four walls. Natural light comes from the domed ceiling, making this room surprisingly bright. Parties of up to 80 or so can be accommodated in the room that is great for an RCPE wedding photographer as it is full of character.
Once your ceremony is complete there are a choice of rooms to receive your guests and have your wedding photographs taken. The private Queen Street Gardens are available to wedding parties for photographs, or it is only a short drive to the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens and Calton Hill, giving a wide range of choices for your wedding photography and guaranteeing you stunning wedding photographs.
On your return the wedding meal is served by the college’s exclusive caterers, and then the room is transformed into a fabulous evening venue for your wedding reception.
